Community Nurses and health care assistants in the Chester le Street area have taken delivery of 135 new nursing bags to help them in their vital job of helping the housebound patients in the community.

The bags include a kneeling cushion and treatment mat and were created with input from community nurses to help provide a safe, joined up and organised approach to transporting equipment to their patients

Stephanie Hall, District Nurse Team Lead for Chester-Le-Street said: “The nurses love the bags as it means they can keep all the equipment they need together in one easy to transport bag. This means that when visiting a patient in their house they can bring what they need in one go, rather than having to make trips back to their car. It’s also much better for infection prevention and control as the bags can be easily wiped down and cleaned.”

The bags were very generously purchased for the community nursing teams by Chester Le Street Primary Care Network (PCN), a partnership of seven local GP practices, and supplied by CorrMed who have been designing and manufacturing medical bags for many years.

Paul Dodds, Practice Manager at Bridgend Surgery said, “Chester le Street Primary Care Network is extremely conscious of the help and assistance that has been provided by community nursing colleagues throughout the covid pandemic in delivering vaccination programme to our housebound patients."

Chester le Street Primary Care Network  is made up of Bridge End, Sacriston, Middle Chare, Great Lumley, Pelton & Fellrose and Cestria surgeries. This isn’t the first time the PCN has supported our district nurses in their work as they previously purchased an echocardiogram machine so district nurses could carry out these investigations in the patient’s home.

Stephanie added: "We’d like to say a big thank you to Chester le Street PCN for using the funding this way to enable the purchase of the bags."
