Across County Durham we have an existing Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service.

This piece of work was looking to understand the current experiences of children/ young people and their families in relation to the Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service in County Durham. Through the information that we have been able to collect, we will be able to inform potential developments in the service delivery for the future as well as recognising what is working well about the current provision.

The opportunity to contribute to this project closed on 8 September 2024. We are currently analysing all of the feedback that was received.

Listening to feedback.

Families

We utilised a variety of methods to connect and hear from families who have experience of using this service. This included all families registered with the service were contacted directly for the opportunity to share their views.

We also offered a series of sessions over the summer that were open to both children and parents/ carers to attend. These sessions were conducted together with staff from Investing in Children as a key partner in this piece of work. These sessions took place at the following places and times:SALT Poster.png

  • 13th Aug 3pm – 4pm Bishop Auckland Family Hub DL14 6QL
  • 21st Aug 11 am – 12pm Stanley Family Hub DH9 0AB
  • 29th Aug 1pm – 2pm Seaham Family Hub SR7 7EU

Parents/ carers were also able to share their views using an online set of questions, if they were unable to make one of the above sessions.

If parents/ carers preferred, they could also contact a member of staff directly by telephone.

Professionals

There is also the opportunity for professionals working within parts of the local health and care system to share their views as part of this piece of work. We will be in contact through local teams and networks for staff we are looking to hear from.

Staff working in educational settings will also be a key partner that we want to hear from.
